OZWALD
BOATENG
May 2025
Marking four decades at the forefront of fashion, Ozwald Boateng has redefined the silhouette, function and palette of international menswear. He is known for creating a concept of style and luxury not previously envisaged, but now desired by men everywhere.
Born in London, Boateng drew early inspiration from the immaculate suits worn by his father. By the age of 16, he had sold his first collection to a menswear shop in Covent Garden. After spending time with Tommy Nutter, the iconic tailor known for his work with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, Boateng envisioned opening a shop on Savile Row. His shop would offer “bespoke couture,” suits in an expressive cut that would enhance the wearer’s spirit and character.
In 1991, Boateng began working towards that goal, opening a studio on Portobello Road. Three years later, he became the first English tailor to present a collection during Paris Fashion Week, introducing his “Classic with a Twist” aesthetic to the world. His success was felt immediately and he opened his boutique on the south end of Savile Row in 1995.
In 2003, he was named Creative Director at Givenchy Homme, part of the LVMH luxury group, reinvigorating the iconic French fashion house. Two years later, Boateng founded Made In Africa, a pioneering initiative aimed at channelling innovation and investment in Africa. Supported by figures like Senator Andrew Young, Mos Def, and Jamie Foxx, the foundation has advised governments in the UK, Ghana and Uganda on development projects.
Boateng’s influence also extends into film and television, with notable contributions to beloved programs like Black Panther, Antebellum, The Harder They Fall, Sex and the City, and more.
With a deep appreciation for tradition and an intrinsic understanding of contemporary design, Boateng has created his own distinctive approach to tailoring. He has fused expert cutting skills with a sublime use of colour and deep textures to merge artistry and classicism. The result is luxury menswear of the finest quality.
Through his residency, guests are invited to experience Boateng’s vibrant vision through his barrier-breaking pieces.
